Ultimate Efficiency
By 2020, Kia has made it a goal to enhance the fuel economy of its entire lineup by a whopping 25 percent. A plug-in hybrid model is a great way to do so. The Optima PHEV is outfitted with a 2.0L “Nu” 4-cylinder GDI engine, which is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This allows the vehicle to generate a segment-leading 154 hp. A 50 kW motor provides electric power. Shifting between electric and gasoline power is seamless, and drivers can expect an estimated 600 miles of total driving range.
To improve efficiency even further, the 2017 Optima PHEV has a stylish and bold aerodynamic design. An active grille that opens and closes automatically as speeds vary and a beveled rear bumper are just two features that help this model achieve one of the lowest drag coefficients (0.24 Cd) in its class.
State-of-the-Art Tech
Drivers do not have to sacrifice efficiency to have all of the latest tech features. If you are looking for the most advanced UVO telematics, you’ve found it in the Optima PHEV. Expect 30 different features ranging from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to remote start/stop. Other standard and available amenities include, but are not limited to:
- Harman/Kardon QuantumLogic™ Premium Surround Audio System
- Advanced Smart Cruise Control
- Front Collision Warning System
- Lane Departure Warning System
- Blind Spot Detection
It won’t be long before the 2017 Kia Optima Plug-In Hybrid hits dealerships; it is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2016.
