Wondering How to Change Headlights?

Headlights can be changed in a jiff especially on newer cars. We can show you how to change headlights quickly and conveniently. Refer to your owner’s manual to help you understand how to choose the right bulb you need. You can also ask an expert at Bill Doraty Kia if you have any questions or concerns.

What You Need

You only need a few tools to know how to change headlights. Gather these items:
  • The right bulbs you need according to your owner’s manual
  • The owner’s/service manual
  • Tools that the service manual requires you to have
  • Screwdriver

Changing Headlights in a New Car

  • First, you need to pop the hood.
  • Then, find the location of the back of the headlight to see what kind of lamp and bulb it needs.
  • Your service manual will tell you everything you need to know about replacing the bulb on your own—it’s generally very simple in new cars, but each vehicle has different tweaks depending on how it was made.

Changing Headlights in an Old Car

  • First take out the screws for the headlamp frame.
  • You must only turn the screws that keep the lamp frame together instead of adjusting it.
  • Pull the socket away from the headlamp with your hand to disconnect it.
  • You will notice the bracelet area. Take the headlamp out from there.
  • With the right side up, insert the new lamp.

The wire socket can now be plugged into the new headlight, but you need to make sure you are holding the headlamp in place.

You can now put the headlight into the frame and bracket and put the screws back where they belong. Remember to not adjust the screws for proper use.

Before going out, turn the lights on at night to make sure you inserted the lights properly.
